2 So, here we are

You may have noticed I don’t contribute much to RoWD, haven’t done so for a long time now. Main reason: lack of time.

RoWD was (still is) a useful experiment, for me, in terms of PHP coding and [a horrible hack of a] CMS. But I simply lack the resources to keep hacking on it. Meanwhile, both me and potential readers are missing out, because, caught between hacking prospects and new content, I do neither.

So here’s the deal: I will keep the RoWD website as it is. It doesn’t ask for food, as someone used to say… And there’s still some useful, or at least interesting, stuff there.

I will keep updating the software list, so those of you still using the RSS feed can continue to do so. If I ever get the time, I will try to migrate it over to this website. When that happens, the RSS will redirect to a new one over here, so you won’t miss a thing.

The community talk feeds and the English news update by themselves, so they will also keep working. I will redirect the main RSS feed over to this website.

Some people may ask why. For various reasons.

  • From the technical point of view, the experiment is over. It’s time to move on, to other things. (Actually, I already have, some time ago.) I’ll start using WordPress for content management. It’s a solid framework, maintained by other people.
  • As far as content is concerned, the delivery formula has changed somewhat. I’ll publish thoughts and hacks rather than tutorials and news. You can say I’ve switched to a more mature audience (in terms of technical knowledge.)
  • Finally, I’m officially switching to bilingual Romanian/English content, and a broader take on web development, as opposed to the Romanian-specific view of RoWD. I’ll still cover topics of interest to Romanian webdev, of course, and I’ll use Romanian where appropriate.

In other news, the state of things in Romania is mostly unchanged, at least since 1999. I’m afraid that I haven’t succeeded in making much of a difference. As such, things will keep being what they are. Between mulling over it with a dead site and pecking on it with a live one, I’ll take the latter.
